Since there is no upgrade advisor for 64-bit, no help there. :-) Stick with installing from the DVD boot. BIOS's can be problematical. You might give the beta a try, depending on what they say the changes are. Also, sometimes an older version will work when the newer ones won't so you might try going back 1 version

I'm running a 3GHZ dual core with 2gb ram on a machine built in the last 4 months, there were no issues reported by the Vista upgrade advisor before upgrading. Windows Update comes back with failed messages and error code 80070057 when trying to install the updates, either all at once or any of them individually.
